A Day in the Life of an Entrepreneur: A Little Detour at Nana’s Mini Mall

Well, friends, building Nana’s Mini Mall has given me another reminder that sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward. 💕

Joe and I had already moved the rugs, shelves, and desk into my little shop, and I was so excited to see it starting to feel real. Then the last rain showed us a problem: the roof was leaking. We moved everything back out so the rugs wouldn’t get moldy and none of my products would be damaged. It was disappointing, but protecting the things that will go into this shop had to come first.

We’ve sealed the seams and screw areas on the outside of the roof, and with more rain expected over the next couple of days, we’ll be able to watch closely and see whether the fix holds. I’m not moving everything back in until I know it’s staying dry.

And then there was my spray-foam ceiling adventure, LOL! I thought I had made a much bigger mess than I actually had. My friend Matt came by to take a look and reassured me that the ceiling is in better shape than I feared. I still need to fill a few gaps and tidy up the bulky spots, but his suggestion gave me a plan I LOVE: put foam board over the spray foam, like the foam board we used on the walls, to give the ceiling a clean, flat finish.

Joe and I are planning a Lowe’s trip tomorrow to get the extra foam board. While the rain gives us a chance to check the roof, I’ll be cleaning up the spray foam so the boards can go up more easily. I’m guessing it may be another couple of weeks of work before I can start moving everything back in, but that’s an estimate, not an opening date just yet.

I can’t wait to welcome you into Nana’s Mini Mall. For now, I’m taking the time to get it dry, tidy, and ready for the creations and people who will fill it. Thank you for cheering me on through the not-so-glamorous parts of this adventure, too. That support means the world to me! 💕
